RSVP and be witty about it.

With the rise of Evite, I have frequently been asked to RSVP for events online. As I'm sure you know, there are three possible responses... Yes, Maybe, and No. But it's not just Yes, Maybe, and No. Each is usually customized to a theme and a personalized message section allows each invitee to elaborate. When declining an evite, it's rather unheard of to simply click that you will not attend or say that you have a previous engagement... you need to come up with reasons and you need to be witty. The NY Times explores this change in RSVP etiqutte and asks what would Emily Post do?

"Produced in 1998, the Evite brand is so well recognized now that there are spoofs on the Internet, including an Evite invitation to “war on Iraq” in which the only confirmed attendees are the United States and Britain."
