There's been talk of bribery with regards to the French Goncourt award... whether or not that has had any affect on the outcome, the winner was announced today: Jonathan Littell's 900-page novel Les Bienveillantes (translated as The Kindly Ones).
Littell is an American, but wrote his novel in French so he might follow in the footsteps of (and honor) Stendhal and Flaubert.
