Buy your way into a novel

The Guardian is reporting that an author named Jason Johnson is auctioning the ability to be a character in his next novel. While this is a cool idea, it isn't an original one, as I already know that Stephen Elliott did this last month. It's highly possible that others have done this in the past, too.
